How it works

/

Freelance designers are not employed and so they have their own work method according the skills our customer appreciates. Designers and artists make great work because we know how to get there. The process is an essential part of the endresult.

There are 24 hours in a day. Freelancers position as a specialist. This way everyone knows what to expect and what assignments to as which freelancer. Most importantly; because of a work method it’s possible to improve the profession thanks to the DBA act 2025. That wasn’t possible before when everyone could just name themself a freelancer.

Step 1. What is a consultation?

You can ask all your questions during a consultation. A consultation is a 1 on 1 conversation with the freelancer. If you don’t know yet what kind of design you are looking for, ask for a consultation. Don’t hesitate to request a consultation when questions come up to set up the assignment. A consultation with me takes a maximum of 1 hour. The rate of 80 euros excl. VAT applies for a consultation. That is not the same amount as the hourly rate.

Don’t worry about being pushed in a direction during a consultation. Our consultation is service oriented; let the freelancer know your wishes. Also fill in the briefing. You can see the consultation like an introductory meeting; you can ask questions about the freelancer’s profession so you know in advance who you will involve in your projects.

In some cases you get a free consultation with the freelancer. Read the blog about freelancers and clients for inspiration, tips, offers and information or contact us.

Step 2. How it works: DTP Design and printing

2.1. DTP Design Briefing and no-obligation quote

After receiving your question via the contact form or your briefing, you receive a no-obligation quote. This way you the cost in advance and you won’t be faced with any surprises. We discuss the briefing during a Google Meeting so that the intentions are clear. If you are not sure yet or need help, request a consultation.

2.2. Submitting briefing, text and images

To keep your printed matter affordable for you, the content in the printed matter must first be supplied. It saves time and you get better results. So if you want to have illustrations or infographics printed in your product catalog, it is best to let us know in advance. Don’t forget to provide a briefing so the designer knows the purpose of your catalog. The briefing can be discussed via a Google meeting during a consultation.

2.3. 50% Payment in advance

In this phase the designer will start working on the assignment. The designer makes hours and so we ask 50% of the total amount in advance. That is useful for both parties. Why? Because it means you do not have to pay the entire amount at once. Besides that, it is a gesture we can start creating and makes you get a stunning result.
Also for recurring assignments, 50% is paid monthly in advance of the total amount excluding VAT. Once the advance payment has been made, the designer starts working on the assignment. You receive a receipt for the payment.

2.4. Preparing the printed matter

Once all your content arrived, the designer starts their hours creating. This means, depending on the size of the assignment, you can expect the result within 14 business days on average. For catalogs with about 24 pages this will be ready within 3-10 business days.

2.5. Corrections

The designer sends you examples of the results of the printing work. Would you like to change something small? That’s possible. Let us know as precisely as possible what the intention is. So tell us in sizes in parameters and color codes that need to be changed. Changes won’t be added based on taste.  Please enter color codes instead of “it could be a little greener”, because the latter will not be changed.

2.6. Send to the printer

Do you like to let us take care of the print service or are you rather sent the ready-to-print file yourself to a print company nearby? If you indicate that you want to receive the printed matter, we will send the files to a print company so that you receive the printed matter. The print company will sent you an invoice for the costs. So you have direct contact with the printer, but we ensure that the file arrives properly at the printer. If there are any errors, we will correct them immediately.

Would you rather choose a print company yourself? We will then send you the ready-to-print files in .PDF format to your email address or via WeTransfer so that you can send the files to the printer yourself. Please note that you may not use the image for purposes other than the specified medium due to royalty costs. If there are royalty costs included (for example for designing a corporate identity), the royality costs will be clearly presented in the policy we sent together with the invoice.

Please contact us for the work methods of our other services. There is always a 50% payment in advance.

Dutch rules and ethical effects

Here in the Netherlands, according to the DBA 2025 Act, freelancers need to have at least more than 2 customers. Freelancers have their own work location, our own profession and therefore our own working method without any authority from other which is in the benefit for all party’s involved for many reasons. For example if a client is very generous with time and likes to execute authority. If a client starts to organize the freelancers time, it can lead to loss of time and the freelancer to lose assignments. So “a little of this and a little of that” and a chat and discussions on what the designer need to do here and there ultimately works against all party’s and is by the Dutch government seen a shrine-self-employed and can mean a fine for the party that is executing authority . That is another reason why respecting the working method of the freelancer is major. It also protects the client in this. It’s an important part that needs to be understood. In case it doesn’t seem to work, the process will be automated instead of human conversations to cancel out the risks for both party’s.

So what will work best? If the client is a fan of the freelancers work, it is up to the freelancer to make the work as excellent as the work they made before (which was in the first place the reason the client ordered). When the client is fan of the work of the freelancer it doesn’t need any authority from others, since the freelancer is the professional expert in his/her field.
